in-depth study of onion KSA

November 24, 2023 | Other Activities

One of the BPS innovations that received an award from the Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform at the 2019 45 Top Innovation Award event was measuring food crop (rice) productivity data using the KSA (Area Sample Framework) method.
The Area Sample Frame Survey (KSA) is an area-based survey carried out by direct observation of sample segments and aims to estimate the area by extrapolation from the sample to the population in a relatively short period (rapid estimate).
In simple terms, the KSA survey is carried out by conducting observations in the sampled rice fields/rice fields periodically every month to obtain data on plant development from the planting (vegetative) period to harvest. Currently, the commodities whose productivity has been measured using the KSA method are rice and corn.
On Thursday - Friday, 23-24 November 2023, BPS Cirebon Regency received an visit from the team of the Directorate of Food Crops, Horticulture and Plantation Statistics of BPS RI. The group was commanded by BPS RI Associate Expert Statistician, Sulistina. Participating in the visit to BPS Cirebon Regency this time was the West Java Province BPS Production Statistics team led by West Java Province BPS Associate Expert Statistician, Marisa Kusuma Putri. The group was received directly by the Head of BPS Cirebon Regency, Judiharto Trisnadi, who was accompanied by the BPS Cirebon Regency Intermediate Expert Statist, Yanti Heryanti along with the Cirebon Regency BPS production team commanded by the Cirebon Regency BPS Junior Expert Statistician, Joko Mulyanto.
The aim of the team from BPS RI and BPS West Java Province to Cirebon Regency was to carry out in-depth statistical data collection on onion crops using the Area Sample Frame (KSA) method.
As stated above, BPS has carried out a KSA survey on two commodities, namely rice and corn. It is planned that the KSA survey will also be carried out for onion commodities. So the team from BPS RI felt the need to carry out in-depth interviews directly with onion farmers in the Losari sub-district, Cirebon Regency, as well as inspecting the onion plantation area to see the growth phases of the onion plants.
Hopefully this indept study visit will bring benefits to the pilot project for measuring onion productivity using the KSA method, so that onion productivity data becomes more accurate.
