SAKERNAS and SUSENAS are two major surveys conducted by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS). Sakernas was first conducted by BPS in 1976, while Susenas, as The Mother Of Survey, was even longer. Susenas was first conducted by BPS in 1963.

These two surveys produce various strategic indicators according to their respective objectives. As the name implies, Sakernas (National Labor Force Survey) produces data on employment in Indonesia, ranging from types of community employment, worker characteristics, to the most strategic, namely the unemployment rate.

While Susenas (National Socio-Economic Survey), produces more complex and strategic data. This survey captures the socio-economic conditions in Indonesian society. Various indicators related to the level of welfare are produced from this survey, including housing conditions, education levels, health levels, income and expenditure/consumption of the community, to the most awaited one, the poverty rate in a region or nationally.

Currently, SAKERNAS and SUSENAS officers are carrying out the process of updating the population in the Census Blocks affected by the sample. This updating is carried out door to door, visiting each house that is included in the Census Block to ensure the existence of the population.
After the population is updated, BPS then draws a sample of households to be interviewed in this SAKERNAS/SUSENAS Survey.
