The Youth Pledge is a national pledge formulated through a decision of the Second Youth Congress in Jakarta on 27-28 October 1928.
This pledge is a national statement of Indonesian youth from various regional, ethnic, and religious backgrounds, uniting their belief that the homeland, nation, and language of unity: is Indonesia.
This belief was then disseminated to be used as a basis for all Indonesian national associations after the Second Youth Congress.
The Second Youth Congress was initiated by the Indonesian Student Association (PPPI), a youth organization whose members are students from all over Indonesia.
This congress aims to strengthen the sense of unity and Indonesian nationality that has grown in the minds and hearts of young men and women.
Before the congress was held, the youth held meetings first on 3 May 1928 and 12 August 1928. They discussed the formation of the committee, the congress agenda, time, place, and costs.
Then the meeting agreed that the Second Youth Congress would be held on 27-28 October 1928 in three different locations, namely the Katholieke Jongenlingen Bond building, Oost Java Bioscoop, and Indonesische Clubgebouw (Boarding House, Kramat No. 106).
The term Youth Pledge is attached to the decision of this congress. The meaning contained is that Indonesian youths always love the Indonesian homeland, maintain and care for our unity as a nation, and uphold the use of the Indonesian language in everyday life.
The peak of the 96th Youth Pledge Day (HSP) commemoration was held today, Monday, October 28, 2024 at the DI Yogyakarta traditional house pavilion, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) Jakarta. This year carries the big theme, namely "Moving Forward Together with Greater Indonesia".
