Statistical
activities in Indonesia have been carried out since the Dutch East
Indies Government by an institution established by the Director of
Agriculture, Crafts and Trade (Directeur Van Landbouw Nijverheld en
Handel) in Bogor.
In
February 1920, the agency was tasked with processing and publishing
statistical data. On September 24, 1924, statistical activities moved to
Jakarta under the name Centraal Kantoor Voor De Statistiek (CKS) and
carried out the first Population Census in Indonesia in 1930.
During
the Japanese Government in Indonesia in 1942-1945, CKS changed its name
to Shomubu Chosasitsu Gunseikanbu with activities to meet the needs of
war / military.
After
the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) was proclaimed on
August 17, 1945, the institution was nationalized under the name of the
Office of the Investigation of the Indonesian Public Accountability
(KAPPURI) Office and was led by Mr. Abdul Karim Pringgodigdo.
After
the Ministry of Prosperity Circular dated June 12, 1950 Number 219 /
S.C., The KAPPURI and CKS institutions were merged into the Central
Statistics Office (KPS) under the responsibility of the Minister of
Prosperity.
Based
on the Decree of the Minister of Economy Number P / 44, KPS is
responsible to the Minister of Economy. Furthermore, through the Decree
of the Minister of Economy on December 24, 1953 Number IB.099 / M, KPS
activities are divided into two parts, namely Afdeling A (Research
Section) and Afdeling B (Administration and Administration Section).
Based
on Keppres X number 172 dated June 1, 1957, KPS was changed to become
the Central Bureau of Statistics and was responsible directly to the
Prime Minister.
In
accordance with Law No.6 / 1960 concerning the Census, BPS held a
Population Census simultaneously in 1961. The Population Census was the
first Population Census after Indonesia's independence. The Population
Census at the provincial level is carried out by the Governor's Office,
and at the Regency / Municipality level is carried out by the Regent /
Mayor's office, while at the District level a section is formed to carry
out the Population Census.
Furthermore,
the Census Organizer in the Governor's Office and the Regent / Mayor's
Office is determined to be the Regional Census and Statistics Office
based on the Decree of the Cabinet Presidium Number Aa / C / 9 of 1965.
Based
on Government Regulation No.16 / 1968 which regulates the Organization
and Work Procedure of BPS at the Central and Regional levels and its
amendment to Government Regulation No.6 / 1980, it is stated that BPS
representatives in the regions are Provincial Satisfaction Offices and
Regency or Municipality Statistics Offices.
BPS
organization is reassigned to PP No. 2 of 1992 which was ratified on
January 9, 1992. Furthermore, the Position, Function, Task,
Organizational Structure, and Work Procedure of BPS are regulated by
Presidential Decree Number 6 of 1992.
On
September 26, 1997 Law No. 16 of 1997 concerning Statistics was
enacted, whereby the Biro Pusat Statistik was renamed the Badan Pusat
Statistik, and at the same time set the date as Statistics Day.
In
Presidential Decree No. 86 of 1998 concerning the Central Statistics
Agency, it was determined that BPS representatives in the regions were
Vertical Agencies with the names of Provincial BPS, Regency BPS, and
Municipal BPS. And on May 26, 1999, PP No. 51 of 1999 regarding the
Implementation of Statistics in Indonesia was stipulated.
BPS Cirebon Regency enlivened the 2019 National Statistics Day simply with
with
a social charity of blood donor steam; sports competitions such as Table Tennis, Futsal, as
well as other light competitions which were participated by all BPS
Employees plus Dharma Wanita Persatuan and some Statistics Partners.
